End of term and Christmas Hols

As I mentioned in the last post, I was on a long weekend of back-to-back shooting competitions. On Sunday, December 1st, it was the XMas Cup in Monmouth! Not only was it a great performance from our teams (Graduate team came first in the flurry, and I came second in the women’s category), but it was fantastic to see a lot of enthusiastic Oxford students come to their first ever competition and have a fantastic day out!

Week 8 – Last week of term!

As always, this week was a flurry of activity but nothing too exciting to talk about! I had my final meeting of term with my supervisor, and the aim is to be half way through the PhD by Christmas! Perhaps it’s a bit ambitious but best to get into the swing of writing sooner rather than later.

On Tuesday, I had a very productive work from home day with a friend. While she worked on her project, I was working on making a map of historical beaver distribution in Yellowstone – mapping it one point at a time. It was incredibly slow going, but it will look fantastic at the end.

Wednesday was interesting as it was an open day for the All Souls Library. I’m already a member, but this is the only day photography is allowed in the Library so I made sure to pop in on my way past! I didn’t have my proper camera with me, but I’ll be sure to take it next time!

By the end of the week, I feel I’d made good progress on the work, and still had time to say goodbye to everyone before they all disappeared off for the Christmas break! College gets very quiet very suddenly at the end of term.

Week 9 and beyond – Cyprus!

There was just enough time to pack and get everything organised before it was time to get on a plane to Cyprus! I kept myself entertained with telling the story of Brother Fuligo off on a solo mission – I even got messaged by the Warhammer team! That certainly made my day!

My time in Cyprus was spent half at the dining room table, pouring over beaver distribution maps over 100 years old, and half spent outside looking at birds! I certainly got some nice photographs on this trip, and will have to get this website sorted into a proper portfolio for them all! If I can I’ll put some here, and once the portfolio is up, I’ll link it!

Before the new year rolled in, I flew back to the UK for a short family trip to Kent. Certainly a nice way to end 2024!
